Hardwood flooring styles are diverse

Hardwood is a traditional flooring material, but available styles offer more than a classic look. A wood floor constructed of tried-and-true standard-sized boards in a medium brown color is still a popular flooring option. But today, unstained wood with very light and very dark colors is in vogue. Wide planks and narrow boards complement different decorating styles. The residents of the Houston, Texas communities can find both traditional and contemporary hardwood flooring styles at Glamour Flooring. We offer a wide selection of solid and engineered wood flooring.

Engineered wood floors

Engineered wood is more budget-friendly than solid wood. But that is not the only reason to choose this man-made floor covering. Ability to tolerate moisture and method of installation are additional reasons. Planks have a base made up of plywood layers that are placed in different directions along with a surface layer of hardwood. Further, planks fit together in tongue and groove fashion so a floating floor can be constructed. Because of this makeup and design, engineered wood can be installed in basements and other moisture-prone areas.

Prefinished solid hardwood flooring

Like engineered wood, prefinished solid wood flooring is sanded, stained, and sealed in the factory. Therefore, boards only need to be nailed to the subfloor when the flooring is brought into the home. Aesthetic and practical factors involved with this convenient method of installation can be considered. To avoid disappointment, be aware that the floor has a beveled look when prefinished boards are used. As for durability, the factory's sealants are quite robust, so finish warranties are usually long.

Unfinished solid hardwood flooring

Traditionally, wood floors are finished in the home after they are installed. It takes one week to sand, stain, and seal the floor. Then an additional week for acclimation. Boards are installed close together, so seams are tight. Seams are also well sealed, so unfinished solid wood is a good choice for kitchens. The floor has a flush look when it is finished in the home. Since on-site installers don't have access to the same sealants as factories, warranties on finishes tend to be shorter than those on prefinished solid wood.
